Now that Covid-19 has challenged us to work and think, more creatively, it would be a shame to lose this new ability of approaching life with an innovative mindset.
Dr Edward de Bono’s ‘Lateral Thinking’ gives the tools to come up with new, different ideas, fast… but what happens then? We’ve all been in the workshop where an ideas session generates 200 post-its, and it’s some poor soul’s job to type them up – and then what do we do?
Thinking in the same direction
That’s where Dr Edward de Bono’s ‘Six Thinking Hats®’ comes in. This world-renowned parallel thinking framework invites meeting participants, in person or virtual, to all think in the same direction at the same time – and so to direct their collective intelligence towards one outcome.
So, let’s take those 200 post-it notes
Maybe the answer to our latest business challenge is in there somewhere. How do we find it? Well:
- some Red Hat thinking would ask us to make an instinctive decision on which ideas to examine first;
- the group’s Yellow Hat thinking would confirm benefits;
- Black Hat thinking would seek risks;
- Green Hat would mitigate them… and;
- using a sequence of Hats – until the ideas chosen to be taken forward are robust, clear and have consensus support.
Of course, this isn’t the only potential use of de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats®. Our clients tell us it helps them to:
- run faster, more effective meetings;
- reduce conflict;
- engender cooperation;
- make teams more creative;
- and much, much more.
